![]() Many propeller-driven aircraft are present. Most of the jets appear to be civil aviation rather than jetliners. The parking lot is immediately adjacent to the Scottsdale Airport buildings, yet surprisingly the aircraft noise is quite muted and fairly infrequent. ![]() One of the so-named suites is "Hap Arnold," who was chief of the Air Corps during WWII. In keeping with the aeronautical vibe, several of the rooms are named after famous pilots or military leaders. The lobby is decorated with aircraft photographs as well as "sculptures" constructed to look like aluminum aircraft sections. The king sized bed must have been relatively new, because it was very comfortable and supportive. The pool only goes to a depth of 5'4" but it is long enough to do short laps if you wish. Towels are provided in a small shelving unit at poolside. Almost all rooms overlook the swimming pool and Jacuzzi tub, and that is surrounded by very tall palm trees and grass. The bathrooms have a granite counter, the sink and shower/tub have been upgraded to modern standards of fixtures. The bathroom and king sized bed lie behind the entry living room and both have been upgraded. Behind the desk is a microwave and stainless sink, under the counter is a small refrigerator/freezer shelf. The rooms are interesting, in that most of them have a loveseat / fold-out bed and a flat-screen TV near a small desk. This was our second stay at this location. The motel was probably constructed sometime in the 1960s and has been continuously upgraded and modernized. Thunderbird Suites takes its name (likely) from the mythical bird, but also the USAF aerobatic demonstration team.
